The Ennis House is an architectural gem and favorite location for film and TV production. Many recognize the buildings unique design and massive quality from movies like “The Day of the Locust” of 1975 or probably more likely from “Blade Runner” of 1982. Even before its completion the Ennis House was marked by structural instability. Concrete blocks had cracked and lower sections of the walls buckled under tension. The use of decomposed granite from the site to color the textile blocks introduced natural impurities to the concrete mix, and combined with air pollution caused premature decay. Because of its unusual aesthetic, the Ennis house has been used in a number of TV commercials, shows, and films over the years. Burkle reportedly spent $17 million on reconstruction and restoration costs before putting it on the market last year.
